Service Description

TaiChiQuan is a martial art developed by a Royal guard, Chen WangTing (陈王庭) during the Ming dynasty. Chen has assimilated boxing techniques with the ancient Chinese philosophical “I-Ching” (易 经), and Traditional Chinese Medicine techniques of “Daoyin” (导引) and “Tuna” (吐纳) into his martial art routines. Daoyin is the concentrated exertion of inner force, while Tuna is a set of deep breathing exercises. By combining martial art exercises, the practice of Daoyin and Tuna and Traditional Chinese Medicine, Tai Chi has become a complete system of exercise in which the practitioner’s mental concentration, breathing and actions are closely connected. • It is an art which combines mind, body and energy (qi) to achieve fitness, mindfulness and inner peace. It involves a series of prescribed positions done in predictable, controlled, flowing sequences that use every muscle and joint in the body. • This flowing form of exercise emphasizes weight shifts, total body movement, and coordinated breathing. • It is a calming, centering, and quieting experience that improves feelings of personal well-being and general health. Aim of the class: • Help to strengthen your heart, build better balance, and improve flexibility. • Slow the onset of dementia, reduce stress, lower blood pressure, among others. • This low-impact, slow-motion exercise can be adapted for anyone no matter what your age or fitness level.
